It's Your Idea
Web design · Ballarat

Web design in Ballarat that keeps earning after launch.

Websites for Ballarat businesses that look right, load fast and stay useful. Designed here, built here, hosted and looked after here — by the same person who answers the phone when something needs changing. Since 2004.

What it has to cover

A good-looking homepage is the easy part.

The part that decides whether a website earns anything is what happens after the design is signed off: how quickly it loads on a phone with patchy reception, whether Google can read it, whether the enquiry form actually reaches your inbox, and whether anyone notices when it breaks at 2am.

We design with those things in the room from the start, because we are the ones who have to host it, monitor it and support it afterwards. A site that is slow or fragile becomes our problem too, so it does not get built that way.

Fast on a phone

Most local searches happen on a mobile. Pages are built light and tested on real handsets, not just a desktop browser.

Findable

Structure, headings, metadata and schema done properly at build time, so you are not paying to retrofit SEO later.

Yours to keep

You own the domain, the hosting account and the content. No lock-in, and nothing held hostage if you ever leave.

How a build runs

Four stages, no mystery.

  1. We look at what you haveStarting with the free audit — speed, mobile, SSL, basic SEO — so the conversation starts with evidence instead of opinions. If your existing site is fine and only needs tidying, we will say so.
  2. Structure before decorationWhat pages you need, what each one is for, and what you want the visitor to do. Most sites fail here, not at the visual stage.
  3. Design and buildBuilt on the platform that suits the job — a custom build, WordPress or Shopify — rather than whatever we happen to sell. You see it working on a real URL well before launch.
  4. Launch, then keep it runningHosting, monitoring, backups, updates and someone to ring. This is the part that separates a website from an expense.
Platforms

Which one suits you.

WordPress

Best when you want to edit content yourself and need room to grow. Built properly, kept updated and monitored — not left to rot. WordPress development →

Shopify

Best for selling. Themes built like software, so changes cost less and you keep the built-in editor. Shopify development →

Custom build

When the job does not fit a template — integrations, unusual workflows, or speed above everything. Web development →

Not sure yet

Most people are not. Run the free audit on what you have now and we will give you a straight answer about what is worth doing. Run the audit →

Why local matters

Same timezone, same person, three years later.

It's Your Idea has worked from Ballarat since 2004. You can meet in person, you are dealing with someone in your own timezone, and the person designing the site is the person still answering the phone about it later.

It also means we understand regional search. A Ballarat trade competing locally needs different work to a business selling Australia-wide. Both are worth doing — they are just not the same job, and pretending otherwise wastes your money.

Common questions

The things people ask first.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on how many pages you need and whether you are selling online. We quote per job after looking at what you have, rather than publishing a headline price that turns out not to apply to you. Hosting and support are priced separately and openly — see pricing.

Do I own my website and domain?

Yes. You own the domain, the hosting account and the content. If you ever leave, it all goes with you.

Can I update the site myself?

Yes. WordPress and Shopify builds keep their normal editors and we show you how to use them. If you would rather we made changes for you, that is what the support plans are for.

Do you only work with Ballarat businesses?

No. We are based in Ballarat and work across regional Victoria and Australia-wide, plus agencies who resell our hosting and tools under their own brand.
